Be treated
like royalty at the
Formaggio
Taverna and Patio
Rancho Cordova, California
In two words: it's
delightful. For an experience of hotel dining without the feeling
you're in a hotel,
Formaggio Taverna and Patio
is the place to be. Located in the Sacramento Marriott Rancho
Cordova Hotel, this is a family-friendly Italian restaurant in a
warmly balanced, relaxed and upbeat setting. The restaurant staff
were always at the tables, talking with guests and bringing them
food in a timely manner. Everyone was treated with respect and
treated like royalty.
Open only for 6 months, Formaggio's has already set the standard not
only in service, but community relations. In a bold and innovative
step, they invited other hotels and their patrons to "come and see".
When they came, they saw a great setting with equally great service,
which extended out to the beautiful poolside, as well as catering
outside events. While they do have a small bar, unlike many hotels
Formaggio's has avoided the 'bar atmosphere' which in other hotels
often times overshadows the dining experience.
Another delight is the Chef's signature desert: Lemon Budino with
Huckleberry sauce. There were many tempting desserts to choose from
but the Lemon Budino remains the recommendation. One of the staff,
Brian Heiss, compounded my experience by recommending a wine to go
with the dessert: Muscato "Eos". While I am not usually a person who
can enjoy the subtleties of wines, the small amount I drank was a
perfect fit with the dessert, and I walked away with an appreciation
for how subtle wines can be. What's more, Brian said many don't ask
for, or know of, the EOS. They have definitely missed a good choice.
Chris Vanwinkle, the Evening Manager was always visible and talking
with patrons. Energetic but not pushy, I liked his style; I was
actually talking to a person and not a manager. Chris spoke proudly
of Formaggio's and had high praise (well earned) for his staff. All
of the staff I encountered made this dining experience a pleasure,
with excellent service and even a learning experience (Brian's
information on the Muscatto and wine making process fascinated me).
Well done Formaggios!
